Imovane is a hypnotic drug used as a sleeping pill to treat insomnia.It is an orally administered drug. Insomnia is a sleeping disorder is a disorder in which patient feels difficult to get sleep or may wake up for long periods during the night or wake up too early in the morning. The active ingredient of Imovane is Zopiclone which belongs to the family of Z drugs which is sedative hypnotic drugs. . Zopiclone acts on the transmitters which sends signal to the brain which induces sleep. It acts by reducing the time taken to sleeping and enhance the duration of sleep. It is a habit forming drug so it is not prescribed for more than two weeks in normal conditions.
Indications:
Imovane is indicated to treat people with sleeping disorder known as insomnia.
Missed dose:
If you missed your dose before you go to bed and you wake up so early during the night or too early in the morning do not try to take the missed dose to get sleep. Do not take the double dose or extra dose to get better results it may lead to some serious side effects.
Overdose:
Never try to take an overdose of Imovane; it may cause some serious side effect. If by chance you have taken an overdose immediately seek medical help.
Contraindications:
Contraindications are some situations in which a particular drug or treatment is not recommended. Imovane is contraindicated in case
- Patient is allergic or hypersensitive to Zopiclone or other ingredients of this drug.
- Patient is old or more than 75 years of age.
- Patient is having any type of personality disorder and depression.
- Patients are having a history of drug abuse and abused alcohol.
- Patients are having any type of respiratory disorder, kidney disorder or liver dysfunction.
- Patient with myasthenia Gravis.
- Patient with sleep apnoea syndrome.
- Do not recommend this drug to pregnant ladies, lactating mothers and children below 18 years.
Drug interaction:
When we take two or more drugs simultaneously theymay interact with activity of each drug. This interaction may increase, decrease or sometimes alters the activity of the parent drug. The drugs that interact with the activity of Imovane or Zopiclone are
- Alcohol or alcohol containing drugs
- Anti-anxiety drugs like Clonazepam, Lorazepam
- Anticonvulsants like Phenytoin, Carbamazepine
- Antihistamines like Diphenhydramine
- Antipsychotic like Olanzapine, Quetiapine
- Antibiotics like Clarithromycin, Erythromycin
- Antifungal drugs like Ketoconazole, Voriconazole
- Narcotic like Morphine, Codeine
- Sedatives like Diazepam
