What is Accutane?

Accutane is used for the treatment of severe acne such ascystic or nodular inflammatory acne.The main component of this medication is Isotretinoin. Accutane is available as soft gelatine capsule, at the strength of 10 mg, 20mg, 30mg and 40 mg. Isotretinoin is chemically linked to retinoic acid as well as retinol which is a synthetic version or derivatives of vitamin A. This medication is taken orally along with a diet which contains high amount of fats. This medication should be taken for 15-20 weeks. It can also be taken in lower doses, for the duration of 6 months. The good news is that this medication is prescribed very frequently for the treatment of less severe acne. The practice with Accutane is becoming very controversial because of its long lasting side effects.
