How does dianette work?
Dianette or Cyproterone works by the following mechanisms:
- It Blocks the receptors that interacts with the androgens. This makes the androgen become unable to effect on the skin and hair follicles. Thus it improves the acne and hirsutism.
- Dianette or Cyproterone also reduces the synthesis of androgens by the ovaries. Thus, it reduces the circulating male hormones.
- It acts as a contraceptive and prevents the ovaries to become mature and release the eggs from the ovaries.
- It also thickens the cervical mucus that makes the sperm to cross the vagina into the womb.
- It also alters the lining of the womb and makes it difficult for the fertilised eggs to implant in the womb.
What are the indications of Dianette?
Dianette or Cyproterone is indicated in the following conditions, such as:
- In the patients of severe acne who don’t respond to oral antibiotics.
- In the woman, who suffers from abnormal hair growth due to the increased production of male sex hormones.
- This medicine can also be used as contraceptive for females, but you need to take doctor’s consultation before using it.
What are the contra-indications of Dianette?
This medication is contraindicated in the following conditions, like:
- In the patient who is allergic to Cyproterone or any ingredient of this preparation.
- If you are experiencing any serious liver disease.
- In the person suffering from any renal disease.
- In women, who is experiencing diseases like deep vein thrombosis, venous thromboembolism etc.

What is dosage of Cyproterone or Dianette?
Each and every tablet of this drug contains the same dose. You can take one tablets daily for 21 days and then take a seven days off. After seven days, you should take the pack again after the seven days. Do not stop the medicine even if you are bleeding after seven days also.
In case of acne, you should take the medicines for three to four months to get the best result.
What are the precautions of this medication?
You should take the following precautions while using this medication:
- Do not take this medication if you are allergic to Cyproterone or any other ingredient of this this preparation.
- Avoid this medication if you are suffering from hepatic and kidney disease.
- You should not take this medication, if you have any history of breast cancer and migraine.
- Dianette is contraindicated in the patients suffering from gallstone.
- Cyproterone is prohibited in pregnancy and lactating women.
- This medication is strictly not recommended in the patients of deep vein thrombosis or any other diseases related to blood vessels.
