Clomid or Generic Clomiphene citrate is a medicine used for treatment of infertility caused due to anovulation in woman. This medicine is used to treat infertility in women only. Clomiphene citrate is used by those women’s who are having trouble becoming pregnant. This medicine is used to help women to achieve pregnancy by raising their ovulation. The anti-estrogen mechanism of Clomiphene Citrate acts by specific binding of receptor with estrogen in ovary and hypophysis. Clomiphene Citrate, a non-steroid medicine is related with the class of medicines known as selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM) drug class. This medicine is available in three different strengths like 25mg, 50mg and 100mg.  If the 25mg tablet does not work, then you take 50mg tablets, after consultation with your health care provider. Clomid medicine is not suggested for women whose ovaries no longer make eggs correctly. A lot of women have successfully conceived after using this medication, which promoted normal ovulation. This medicine should be taken orally exactly as suggested by your health care provider. This medicine is meant for oral administration for strength of 50mg taken for 5 days during a cycle. Do not take overdose or skip a dose. Follow the exact dose prescribed by your doctor.

After its follicles in move produce the estrogen, this moves in serum.  This makes the body perceive a low level of estrogen in the presence of clomiphene citrate, similar to day 22 in the previous menstrual cycle. As the estrogen level is decreased effectively, this in return exerts a negative feedback on the hypothalamus. This pulsatiles Gonadotropin-releasing Hormone (GnRH), resulting in increased number of pituitary gonadotropin hormones like Luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) release. As the follicle stimulating hormone number increases the growth of more ovarian follicles, this result in breaking of follicles, ending to ovulation.

Clomid for infertility treatment:

Clomid or clomiphene is an oral medication which produces, or adjusts, ovulation. This medicine is a long trusted oral medication relied upon for its safety, effectiveness. Clomiphene is used to treat absent or irregular menstrual cycles. Clomiphene may also be used to enhance ovulation in women who are already ovulating. Clomid triggers the brain’s pituitary gland to secrete an increased amount of follicle stimulating hormone Luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) release. This expedition encourages the growth of the ovarian follicle and thus originates ovulation. Only One egg is ovulated under a normal menstrual cycle. But when treated with clomiphene Citrate the ovaries released two or three eggs per cycle. This medicine is taken orally for 5 days and it is work only under the month it is taken.

Clomid course should be started, when women are under menstrual cycle day 2nd day of menstrual flow (not just spoting).

• A 50 mg clomid tablets should be taken orally for 5 days.
• After the completion of 5 days of medication course, alternate day intercourse is required to target the increased number of eggs.
• On day 11 or 12 day of the 28 days cycle, ultrasound monitoring is required to make sure if an ovarian follicle or follicles have developed. Also at this time, patients are asked to use an ovulation predictor kit to test their urine for a surge in LH (luteinizing hormone) indicating that eggs have matured. If the test results show negative luteinizing hormone, ovulation itself may be triggered with an injecting HCG (Ovidrel) medication, which will cause the release of the mature egg(s) from the follicle(s).
• And after that natural intercourse is timed to ovulation.

If the ovulation is assisted with Ovidrel (HCG) injection progesterone hormone tablet or gel is administrated via female virgina. This progesterone tablet or gel supports the endometrial (uterian) lining and prepare it for the fertilized egg.

The patients are advised to go for a pregnancy test, after two weeks of ovulation. If the test is positive, further blood test will be performed to confirm results.

Side Effect:
