Mechanism of action of Dostinex 0.25mg:
The anterior pituitary secretes the prolactin hormone which is controlled by the hypothalamic inhibitory control. The active ingredient of Dostinex is cabergoline which is a long-acting dopamine dopamine receptor agonist. Cabergoline has a strong affinity for D2 receptors. So this medication works by the following activities:
- It stops the release of prolactin from the pituitary gland.
- It exhibits the minimum affinity towards dopamine D1, alpha1 and alpha2- adrenergic receptors as well as 5-HT1 and 5-HT2 serotonin receptors.
Indications of Dostinex 0.25mg:
This medication is used to manage hyperprolactinemic diseases that may be idiopathic or due to the adenomas of pituitary gland.

After doing research on many hyperprolactinemic patients, the scientists say that cabergoline or Dostinex 0.25mg shows very rare side effects that are mild to moderate in intensity.
