How Does NuvaRing Work?
NuvaRing contain two different types of hormones one estrogen and the other progestin, which work together to prevent your ovaries from producing mature eggs and thus helping to get safe from unwanted pregnency. Estrogen and progestin are the same hormones found in the pill, and they work the same way in your body even though they are administered another way with NuvaRing. With NuvaRing, hormone discharge is activated once the ring comes into contact with your vagina. The hormones estrogen and progestin are then engrossed and disseminated into your bloodstream. When used as directed and guidded, NuvaRing works as well as the birth control pill— NuvaRing is 99% effective in preventing pregnancy.
NuvaRing works with your menstrual period cycle:- Over the course of 3 weeks of your 28 days cycle, NuvaRing release a nonstop low dose of estrogen and progestin to prevent your ovaries from producing mature eggs. The continuous present level of estrogen and progestin hint your brain not to release estrogen and progestin hormones that cause egg maturation. Thus without an egg ready to be released into the fallopian tube, ovulation cannot occur and without a proper ovulation from the ovary pregnancy cannot be expected. The ring should be removed after every 3 weeks of insertion, on the same day of the week on which it was inserted. Your menstrual period after the 3 weeks will usually start 2 to 3 days after you remove of NuvaRing. After a break of 7 days, you should insert a new NuvaRing for your next 28 days cycle. It is very significant that you should insert a new ring on the same day of the week as it was removed in the last cycle, even menstrual period has not stopped completely.
NuvaRing is a flexible vaginal ring approved for the prevention of unwanted pregnancy in women.

The most common side effects with NuvaRing users are tabled below:- • vaginal infection, pain, secretion and irritation, • headache, • weight gain and • Nausea /vomiting.
Important Safety Information: - The use of combination oral contraceptives with NuvaRing will increase risks for several serious side effects; these side effect includes blood clots, stroke, or heart attack.
NuvaRing is not advised for women with a history of following conditions. The risk of getting blood clots may be greater with the type of progestin in NuvaRing than with some other progestin in certain low-dose birth control pills that taken orally. It is unknown if the risk of blood clots is dissimilar with NuvaRing use than with the use of positive birth control pills taken orally.
• NuvaRing is not for women with certain cancers or those who may be pregnant or those who wish to get pregnant. • NuvaRing does not defend against HIV infection and other sexually transmitted diseases (STD). Who Should Not Use NuvaRing? Do not use NuvaRing if you have any of the following conditions tabled below:
• A history of heart attack or stroke • A history of blood clots in your legs (thrombophlebitis), lungs (pulmonary embolism), or eyes • A history of blood clots in the deep veins of your legs • Chest pain • High blood pressure • Diabetes with complications of the kidneys, eyes, nerves, or blood vessels • Headaches with neurological symptoms • Known or suspected breast cancer or cancer of the lining of the uterus, cervix, or Unexplained vaginal bleeding • Jaundice during pregnancy or during previous use of hormonal birth control of any kind • Liver tumor • Heart valve or heart rhythm disorders that may be associated with formation of blood clots • Need for a long period of bed rest following major surgery • Known or suspected pregnancy • Active liver disease with abnormal liver function tests Tell your doctor/health care professional if you have ever had any of the conditions just listed above. Your doctor /health care professional can suggest another method of birth control. Talk to your doctor/ health care professional about using NuvaRing if you:-
• Smoke • On breast feeding • Recently had a miscarriage or abortion In addition, talk to your doctor /health care professional about using NuvaRing if you have any of the conditions mentioned below. Women with any of these conditions should be checked often by their doctor or health care professional before they choose to use NuvaRing as a birth control measure.
• A family history of breast cancer • Nodules in the breast, • Fibrocystic disease, • An abnormal breast X-ray /mammogram • Diabetes • High cholesterol • High blood pressure • Migraine or other headaches or epilepsy • Depression • Gallbladder, liver, heart, or kidney disease • Scanty or irregular menstrual periods
You may need to stop using NuvaRing for a while to reduce your chance of getting blood clots if you are planning for a major surgery. • Any condition that makes the vagina get irritated easily • Prolapsed or dropped uterus, dropped bladder or cystocele, or rectal prolapse or rectocele • Severe constipation • History of toxic shock syndrome
